Inmate Mail Policy
The Thomas County Sheriff's Office has a mail policy in place to mitigate the introduction of drugs and contraband into the facility.

General Correspondence:
Inmates are allowed to have writing material in their possession and are strongly encouraged to write to their families. All mail is subject to search and censorship. 

All inmate mail with the exception of legal correspondence, religious mail, money orders and packages will be mailed to a central processing facility. This mail must be in the form of a postcard. At the JailATM mail processing facility, postcards will be scanned and made available electronically to the inmates for a period of 14 days via JailATM kiosk or tablet.

Note: Bulk mailings are NOT permitted at JailATM.com and will be denied.

Postcards should be mailed to the following address utilizing the current mail guidelines:

Legal Mail:
Legal Mail should be mailed directly to the jail. All legal mail must be clearly marked as being sent from an attorney, court official, government official, or consulate.

Religious Mail:
Religious Mail should be mailed directly to the jail and must come directly from a religious organization utilizing the current mail guidelines.


Money Orders:
Money Orders should be mailed directly to the jail for deposit only. Packages should be mailed directly to the jail, utilizing the current guidelines.

Legal mail, religious mail, and money orders should be mailed to the following address utilizing the current mail guidelines:

According to Thomas County policy, unacceptable mail will be returned to the post office. Unacceptable mail received at the Central Mail Processing Facility will be rejected via the central mail system and destroyed. All rejected scanned mail will be electronically stored for investigative purposes.

Photographs:
Photographs will be reviewed and scanned, then sent to the inmate. Emailing photographs as an attachment is no longer an option.

Normal mail rules still apply; content violations may prevent delivery of the item to the inmate. Prohibited material includes:

-     Racy or pornographic images.
-     Pictures or descriptions of illegal activities.
-     Pictures or descriptions of self-defense tactics, locksmith instructions, escape techniques, or similar material deemed hazardous by correctional staff.
-     Pictures or descriptions of the use or manufacture of firearms, explosives, or other weapons.
-     Drugs or biohazards on the envelope or contents.
-     Threatening or violent content.
