The primary function of the Thomas County Jail is to serve the counties inmate population with the utmost dignity and respect. We are charged with the care, custody and control of all Thomas County inmates, which we take very seriously. We know our inmates are also someone's son, daughter, mother, father, brother, sister etc., therefore we take this responsibility to heart and we will always exhaust all our resources to provide for a sanitary, safe and secure environment for all.

The Thomas County Jail has an average daily population of about 200 inmates. Our jail has the potential to house well in excess of 400 inmates with some minor modifications. We house Municipal, State and Superior inmates as well as Probationers for State and private probation. Often, we are contacted by other agencies to house problem inmates that they do not wish to deal with. The Thomas County Jail houses minor misdemeanor violators as well as the most violent offenders alike.

Our inmates are provided with clean, safe and secure housing, in person and virtual visitation, a vast assortment of commissary options, all necessary hygiene items, a daily nutritious 2800 +/- calorie diet, access to phones, tablets, cable television, a well ventilated and air-conditioned housing area as well as a variety of in-house religious services. We ensure our inmates receive superior health care, dental and mental health services.

We demand all our Detention Officers stay up to date with the most recent and relevant training, so as to ensure our officers perform at the highest level. It is with pride we return our inmate population back to the free world in a much better condition than when they came in.
