The Uniform Patrol Division is made up of the most visible members of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office. They are first to respond to any situation requiring involvement and are responsible for providing primary services. These services may include the collection of information and evidence, the rendering of first aid, and basic life support. The Patrol Division is on duty twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year.

The Patrol Division accomplishes its mission through daily shift reports, proactive law enforcement, conducting misdemeanor investigations,  supporting other law enforcement agencies, community outreach and compassionate response to people who are in crisis. We strive to reduce crime and enhance the quality of life for all citizens who live, work and visit Thomasville Thomas County.

Patrol Deputies are often the first to arrive on the scene. They conduct preliminary investigations and complete any required reports. The reports are then forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for assessment for investigative assignment.

The Uniform Patrol Division of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and serves as the "stepping stone" part of our fight against crime. The Patrol Division is the backbone of operations, the most visible of our functions, and leads the way in the delivery of our public safety services.

We provide patrol services to numerous outlying municipalities that include Boston, Pavo, Barwick, Coolidge, Meigs and Ochlocknee. The Sheriff's Office has a great working relationship with these towns that are lucky to have their own Police Department.

We tailor our patrol response based upon crime analysis and proven community policing techniques, using both standard and alternative patrol methods as necessary.

We train hard and pride ourselves on our patrol deputies' ability to respond to rapidly developing situations, apply creative methods in the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime, conduct in-depth field investigations, and use technology in the identification, preservation, and collection of evidence. Technology used by our Patrol Division is a major part of our arsenal to combat crime.

Through problem-solving techniques, deputies engage the community in working with them as partners. Our goal is to identify core problems that lead to crime and disorder, and through this cooperative effort, offer the community lasting solutions to the problems identified.

While all types and degrees of crime may occur in Thomas County, the most common activities our patrol teams are involved in are responding to alarms, suspicious person calls, alcohol or drug-related offenses, and domestic violence disturbances. Proactive efforts generally revolve around drugs, traffic, and driving while intoxicated.

As deputies conduct their work, they seek to gain voluntary compliance with the law, yet have the discretion necessary to redirect undesirable behaviors or take enforcement action.
