Thomas County Jail Bonding Scam!!!!
Thomas County Sheriff's Office Warns Residents of Bail Bondsman Scam
The Thomas County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about an ongoing scam involving individuals impersonating bail bondsmen and law enforcement officers. Several people in Thomas County have already fallen victim to this scam.
These scammers are monitoring recent bookings at the Thomas County Jail and using information available online to locate and contact family members or loved ones of individuals who have been arrested. They then pose as bail bondsmen and attempt to convince families to send money to secure their loved one's release.
The scammers are requesting payments through Bitcoin, Cash App, and other electronic payment methods.
Please be aware that Thomas County has only two approved bonding companies:
S&S Bail Bonds
Mike's Bail Bonds
Legitimate bail bondsmen in Thomas County will not request bond payments through Bitcoin or Cash App.
In some cases, these scammers are also impersonating U.S. Marshals and threatening individuals with arrest warrants for obstruction if they refuse to send money.
The public needs to understand that neither a U.S. Marshal nor a Thomas County Sheriff's Deputy will call and threaten you with an arrest warrant for refusing to send money for someone's bond.
If you receive one of these calls, please remember:
Hang up immediately. Do not engage with the caller.
Do not send money through Bitcoin, Cash App, or any other payment service.
Do not provide banking information, personal information, or other sensitive details.
Report the call to the Thomas County Sheriff's Office.
If you believe you have been contacted by one of these scammers, please call Thomas County Non-Emergency Dispatch at 229-225-4151 and ask to speak with a deputy.
The Thomas County Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to share this information with family and friends. These scammers are targeting people during stressful situations when they are concerned about loved ones who have been arrested.
Please stay alert, verify who you are speaking with, and never send money to someone who is threatening you over the phone.
